Here is a project I did with parts I had collected over the years. My desire was to illuminate my son’s storage cube, which we are using as more of a display case because it pretty much covers the whole wall. We do have lots of Lego sets that we would like to be able to highlight.

I had a bunch of 12 volt RGB LED strips of various lengths and I was fortunate enough to have five that were 1 foot in length. I was originally very disappointed with the original way of daisy chaining the strips because it was pretty much a “vampire” tap that was difficult to maintain a good contact. For this project I just decided to strip back the weather seal and solder the strips together. That way I could use some heat shrink to act as a strain relief as well.

I also had some mounting squares that I had from another project that I could use to zip tie the LED strip to since the original sticky tape was gone. From there is was just a matter of installing the strips in each cube and add the controller. The one I had was a manual RF controller, so I will probably pickup a controller that works with Home Bridge down the road so that I can automate on/off times and color. I also will add another row on top of my test row.
